How it works

Fill out the form at the top of this page and we will reach out to you with more information about the programme.

  • Sign saying READ

Step 2: Read the milker agreement

Everyone participating is required to sign before you can do shifts. Everyone in one household can sign a single form. Please read this ahead of the milking training so you can ask any questions.

  • Step 3: Join us for an introductory milking training

Sign up to our 2 hour training session via Eventbrite.

When coming for the milking training please also bring a debit or credit card to pay the membership fee, which is required prior to taking shifts. If you decide to sign up we will deduct the training fee from the £70 membership. Please note that we do not have parking onsite but there is 2 hour on-street parking on Cornwallis Road.

Frequently asked questions

  • Goats are milked twice a day at 8am and at 6pm (these times are not flexible to ensure the animals welfare). There are 2 milking slots available in the morning and 2 at 6pm, so 4 milking slots per day. Minimum commitment is one slot per week. Each milking shift takes around 30 to 45 minutes.

  • We will have two people per shift to do the milking for everyone to learn together. If you have two people in your household coming for one shift, you can put your names down for both slots if you feel comfortable that the second person will be able to help you handle the goat. We recommend that you only do this once you have completed 4 sessions with other people

You will be able to pick your milking shifts once you have completed the training. You may want to shadow some other members before signing up for a session but as we milk in pairs you won't be on your own.

  • Our main communication channel is via our WhatsApp group. However, by joining others will be able to see your phone number so please keep that in mind and let us know if you request another form of communication or if you're happy with this.

  • Our goat milking sessions are not open to the public. If you fill in the expression of interest let us know in the questions session you would like to shadow a session before attending the training and we will arrange this.

  • Please let us know in the expression of interest form and we will try to arrange an alternative time. We are a small part-time staff team so ask where possible you attend the group training.

  • We understand that financial circumstances can vary, and it's important to us that our resources are accessible to all who can benefit from them.

If you find yourself unable to afford the membership fee, we offer subsidised places to ensure that financial limitations don't hinder your access to our services.

Please reach out to volunteering@oxfordcityfarm.org.uk to inquire about subsidised options available to you. We're committed to fostering an inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to participate and grow.
